Next Chapter is a TrackersCloud project. For privacy questions, access or correction requests, contact joel@trackerscloud.com.
What you choose to record
The app can contain your name and goals, tasks, reading history, reflections, growth and game progress. If you use health features, it also contains the medication details, dose history, weight, waist and body measurements you enter. These features are optional. We use this information to display your progress, provide the features you choose, sync accounts and deliver enabled reminders.
Device-only mode
Device-only progress is saved in your browser’s local storage. It is not uploaded to an account automatically. If you enable legacy device pairing, a separate synced copy is stored in Azure. If you enable push reminders, your browser subscription and reminder schedule are sent to the reminder service. These optional services operate independently of signing in.
Signed-in accounts
Microsoft or GitHub handles your credentials and account recovery. Next Chapter receives a provider identifier and display information; we do not collect your provider password. Your account progress is stored in Azure Table Storage, and a separate cached copy is stored in this browser so changes can be saved locally before syncing. Sync happens while the app is open and connected. Microsoft operates the hosting and storage services; your identity provider operates its sign-in service.
Use the same provider when signing in on another device. Microsoft and GitHub identities are separate accounts; matching email addresses do not combine them. You explicitly choose whether to copy device-only progress into an account. Existing account progress is kept when importing.
Reminders and browser storage
Push reminders use your browser vendor’s notification service. A subscription identifies a browser installation; reminder content can include task titles or medication details, depending on your privacy settings. Choose private reminder text in Settings to reduce what appears on a lock screen. Account sign-out stops reminders on this browser and clears the signed-in account’s cache. Other signed-in devices retain their reminders and cache until they sign out or the account is deleted.
The app uses an authentication cookie supplied by Azure, local storage for progress and sync metadata, and a service-worker cache for app files and artwork. Authentication and account API responses are excluded from that cache. This app does not include advertising trackers or analytics scripts. The app and hosting services may receive ordinary connection and diagnostic information. App fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the connection information needed to serve them.
Access, export, correction and deletion
You can edit your records in the app and export a password-encrypted backup from Settings. Backup files are saved to your device and exclude reminder credentials. Keep the passphrase separate from the file.
Settings → Delete my account data removes account progress from the active database, account-linked reminder registrations and schedules, and the current browser’s account cache. A minimal record containing an opaque account identifier and deletion status remains to prevent old devices restoring deleted data. Deletion does not delete your Microsoft or GitHub account.
Offline devices cannot receive a deletion immediately. When they next connect, their account workspace is blocked; reopening the app clears stale account progress. For immediate removal on an offline device, clear that site’s browser data. Downloaded backups, device-only records and legacy paired copies are separate: remove them yourself, or use the device-only reset and pairing controls in Settings. If a deletion is interrupted, reconnect and retry or contact support; the deleted account cannot sync or be recreated while reminder cleanup is incomplete.
Retention and your choices
Account progress is retained until you delete it. Browser data stays until you sign out, reset the relevant workspace, or clear site data. Files you export remain wherever you save them. Hosting and infrastructure records can have their own retention periods. Contact us if you need help locating, correcting or removing information; do not include medication details or other sensitive records in an initial support email.
